UPDATE: The Downer Community Pump Track is currently being built by Iconic Trails and will be ready to ride by Monday 6th March. We are now currently seeking donations to assist with landscaping of the track.

We’re a group of Downer residents who want to revive a wonderful community asset – the Downer Community Pump Track.

Some Downer residents may remember that in December 2000, The Downer Jump Track was officially opened, behind the cricket nets on the Downer oval. Despite attracting large numbers of users and visitors from Downer and surrounding suburbs, the track was sadly closed and demolished due to issues with securing public liability insurance

Pump tracks are purpose built tracks with rollers (small rises and dips) and berms (banked corners). Designed to be ridden via 'pumping': generating motion through up and down body movements, rather than pedalling or pushing. They can encourage bike, scooter, skate-board and skate/roller blade riding skills in a safe and fun environment. As well as making efficient use of space, they can help to build a robust riding community, promoting an active lifestyle for all ages.

More and more, we’re discovering the importance of activities that expose children to risk, as a way to build risk resilience and improve physical coordination as adults. We have a greater understanding of the importance of mixed use recreational facilities, of the numerous health and social benefits of cycling and out-door activities (for all ages and genders) and a newfound enthusiasm for the benefits a pump track can bring to a local community. So much so, that we now have fantastic government support for the implementation of such a fabulous facility.

We are building a beautiful, sustainable pump track at the Downer Neighbourhood Oval (corner Melba and Bonython St): one designed for primary-school aged children and encompassing a range of skill levels. The track will be ready to ride by Monday 6th March 2023 (!!).

We are so grateful to have received an ACT sports and recreation grant of $10,000 towards this, a generous $8,000 donation from The Tradies (Dickson) as well as community donations via this GoFundMe site to make this dream become a reality (THANK YOU!!).

We are now continuing our fund-raising efforts for landscaping to ensure the track fits within the environment in a sustainable manner.

Please consider supporting us, via donation to build this community asset in the beautiful suburb of Downer, Australia 2602.
