Bring Abbie Back: Support Her Rescuers

UPDATE:
Abbie's rescuer's story of what she (and Abbie) endured during their time in the woods.
Abbie ka Dabbie is safe, warm, dry, has a full belly, and is curled up next to me in my guest room awaiting reunification with her people when she is strong enough to go home to Delaware. Abbie spent 21 days lost in the forest in southern Humboldt county, raining nearly the entire time. A lot of rain, creating mud slides and flooding. When she and I finally got coordinated to both attend the same meeting, it was getting close to freezing temperature and she was drenched from the hips down her tail, her fur was matted with moss and twigs, some fur on her underside missing, and had developed a cough deep in her lungs. I fear she is or was on the verge of pneumonia. I knew I had to get her out that night. Leading up to that point was a series of trial and error, a lot of hiking through thick vines and ferns on the inclined forest floor, plastering 2 small towns with posters and flyers with photos of Abbie and her heart wrenching story of how she got lost, and hours spent sitting and waiting for Abbie to show. Getting tangled up in vines and landing face first a few times reminded me that I’m not as young and agile as my ambition and I wondered how Abbie could maneuver through the underbrush in search of shelter from the rain, and for something to hunt. Each time she showed up on trail camera photos, her condition was clearly looking worse. I am so thankful that I had a small group of locals to help me with all aspects of this rescue. From lending equipment to hiking the hill in the dark and in the rain with me until I was brave enough to go alone, to brainstorming tactics and plan of action, and also to lend support when I felt like I was losing hope. Maryellen, Karen, and Hellen were instrumental from start to finish and I could not have rescued Abbie without this team of hard-working, cat-loving crazy superheroes. Abbie’s ordeal is far from over. She has a vet appointment, confinement to my guest room with 2 upset cats on the other side of the door for a few days, and then most likely a drive to SFO for her reunion with her people and a flight home to Delaware.
Camping in December in the rain, poison oak rash, Christmas dinner in a restaurant alone, and nightime hikes in the rain up a hill were nothing compared to Abbie’s days she endured and I would do it all again for the sweet girl I have curled up and purring beside me. I love my job!

ABBIE HAS BEEN RESCUED! The rescuer was able to trap and rescue Abbie just after midnight (PST) on Sunday. We are so grateful for their efforts. She and her rescuers were out in horrible conditions for 21 days. These amazing people did not give up! Help me help them keep up their work and re-unite cats and owners.

Abbie escaped in Redway California when her family was relocating and had made a stop. She somehow was able to lower the power window and jump out of an RV.

Three wonderful rescuers have been working to locate Abbie. They are using trail cams, thermal imaging equipment and one of the rescuers has come to Redway from out of town to stay and search for Abbie. They are getting close and Abbie has been spotted at night, however, they have expenses that I am raising money to help with.

If you can donate anything to help in this search and to bring Abbie back to her family it would be greatly appreciated. All of the funds raised are for the rescuers.
