Ay up, my name is Sammi and I’m receiving treatment for Breast cancer who would like to give back to all the other patients & staff to help them ‘Smile’ during their treatment journey for cancer.

My wish again this year like last 2 years is to continue to support the University Hospital of Derby and Burton Chemotherapy (F11250), Radiotherapy (F11245), Oncology (F11235) & Breast (F21004) Units because the care and support I am receiving is ‘Outstanding’ it’s above and beyond.

Simple Smile is not a charity…it is an act of kindness that helps you through your cancer treatment journey. A Simple Smile can turn fear into courage and offer hope to others. I would love to give this Simple Smile that extra mile again this year with your kindness, help and support because together we can make a massive positive difference and hopefully raise a smile or two along the way.

Last year (11/03/25) I began walking the miles in smile all over again from the previous year…everyday no matter what the weather to give ‘Simple Smile that Extra Mile’ by pavement walking around Belper 1000miles and 200more (John OGroats to Lands End… The Return Walk).

This year as of 11/03/26 I'm going to be walking the miles in smile all over again…BUT this time it will be 2000miles and 50 Odd More….Together Let’s Smile with Every Mile (John OGroats to Lands End, North to South Wales, North to South Ireland and Lands End to Paris) to create welcome smile signs with words of encouragement from the patients for the patients for each of the 4 units. These signs will help reduce anxieties whilst visually shining light on days when the patients treatment journey feels long offering support whilst bringing comfort and hope to help all the patients to Keep going…One smile… One Step…One day at a time!

The Welcome Sign designs and smile words will also create a Pin Badge for each individual unit as a gentle reminder a simple smile speaks 1000words and that we are never alone…exceptional care together.

Along side the signs and pin badges I will be putting together a number of Simple Smile ‘Hug in a Mug’ for those patients who may have lost their smile a little bit that are starting, revisiting or that continue their treatment journey to hopefully reassure them with a warm comforting reminder that we are all in this together, they are not alone and we care about them on their treatment journey…

Each Sip… Each Smile…Each gentle moment wraps all our hearts in hope and Strength whilst hopefully helping them to raise a smile…❤️

This year I am going to be holding a coffee morning ‘Sip A Simple Smile’ on the first Monday of each month starting on Monday 6th April. The Grapes Inn, High Street, Belper DE56 1GF 11:30 - 13:00

It’s an opportunity for those who are living with cancer, surviving cancer or supporting a loved one with cancer to come along and together we can celebrate all the Cs …Cracking Company…Chit Chat…Cuppas and Cake …promise we are a friendly bunch and we won’t bite…not whilst there is cake!

Look forward to sipping some smiles with you all!

Also, Im wishing to raise the roof and a few more smiles by hosting another live music fundraising event because music is not only good for your soul, it helps you forget your worries and fears, it brings us all together and it is a big part of helping us all to smile which is what Simple smile is all about.

Finally I would like to create another opportunity for people who may have lost their smile a little bit to take some time out for themselves, a chance to breathe and reflect by walking either 30mi, 60mi or 100miles in September.

Walking has been and continues to be my best friend throughout my treatment journey. It has allowed me to keep a positive and healthy mindset, maintain my strength and well being…helping me to smile and I would love for you all to Keep Smiling too.

It’s true a smile can brighten your day, however, a Simple Smile can also speak 1000 words and invisibly hold your hand during treatments. Myself and other patients /staff have expressed so many feelings via our simple smiles…it’s like our own language but immediately you are included, you understand, you don’t feel alone and everyone is in this together.

I’m made up that with your fantastic support together we have achieved so much over the last 2 years (March’24- Feb’25) and (March ‘25 - Feb’26).

Thank you so much with all my heart for believing the miles in smile really can go that extra mile raising a whopping £13527.00 which is phenomenal to help the other patients smile on their cancer treatment journey in the 4units at UHDB.
