Help Callie & Rachel (and their cast!) bring HELIX to life: a new evening-length circus show!
This is the final stretch of a 12-month residency creation period through the Contemporary Circus and Immersive Arts Center (CCIAC), and we need your help raising funds to complete our project. We present HELIX, the first-ever full-length circus show DuoShadow will be creating.
When we first got the Artist First Residency last summer we set out as a duo to devise a new act on an alternative apparatus, braided loops (initially inspired by a performance by P!NK and her daughter). The act was created under the circus tent in Prospect Park, Troy, NY, as part of the CCIAC annual Circus in the Park event. Since then we augmented the apparatus to have an AmSteel interior, effectively making it stronger and more durable for manipulation. Our experience creating this duet inspired us to think bigger: we wanted to create an evening-length show that would premiere in Troy, NY in August!
In order to bring HELIX to life, we decided to collaborate with friends and artists to support the creation. The show will be performed by us (Rachel Barringer & Caroline Wright of DuoShadow ) as well as Caitlin Quinn, Ernesto Lea Place, Alex Oliva, and Jen Ender. The show will be directed by Sophia Herscu and will be produced in collaboration with Circus 617 of Boston, MA. Your support will specifically pay for the rehearsal space, artists' rehearsal time, and some costume elements of the work!
To create the show we will have a week-long creation intensive at the Roslindale Substation in Boston in July through the Commonwealth Circus Center & Circus Up residency. We are pleased to be hosting a Works in Progress showing on July 27th at the Substation, at the end of that intensive week, for our local friends and community. More details on that to come.
We’re feeling excited and privileged to be leading this project and humbly request the support of our friends, family and community to bring this dream to life!
