It’s an astonishing story, with compelling parallels to our present day.
A Mother’s Heart is a documentary short that follows my young mother and father’s escape from the Nazis in 1941- 45, relying on courage, wit, luck, and the aid of non-Jews who risked their own lives. I was fortunate to have parents who were willing to relive those memories. I’m a long-time documentary editor, and I’ve wanted to tell their story for the last 25 years. I decided—if not now, when?
Join me in bringing this moving and vital film to completion! Your donations will be used to cover the costs of a sound mix, closed captioning and archival footage and music licensing. I’m very close to finishing but I need your help!
All donations will be thanked in the film credits.
As our world takes a dark turn towards authoritarianism and Holocaust deniers are given an open platform, I feel an urgency to share their story, to show what happened when fascism arrived at my own family’s door, and to talk about what can happen again. How do we protect the vulnerable, speak the truth, maintain our humanity and resist authoritarian rule?
Through in-depth interviews, family photos, and archival footage, A Mother’s Heart recounts the serendipitous and often dangerous journey that first bought my parents together. Set against the backdrop of World War II and Hitler’s invasion of Poland, the film’s power lies in first person testimony, as my mother recounts how she and her sister defiantly escaped transport to death camps and eluded capture. And how a mother’s heartfelt beliefs brought my parents together.
A Mother’s Heart shows how faith, life and love can endure even in the darkest times. Telling my parents’ story offers inspiration and instruction to new generations of viewers. This 18-minute short will be the first of a series of short films about my family’s survival.
Even if you're not able to make a donation now, please share my campaign with your friends, family, and social media networks. Let’s spread the word about
A Mother’s Heart, and bring these untold stories of courage and hope to the widest audience possible.
Thank you!
