Hello friends, family, and supporters of the choral arts!
I am thrilled to share that I have been accepted into the prestigious Summer Institute for Renaissance Polyphony (affectionately known as "Josquamp"). This June, I have the incredible opportunity to travel to UC Berkeley to study the music of Josquin des Prez under the direction of world-renowned scholars and the professional vocal ensemble, Cut Circle.
Acceptance into this program is an immense honor. For five intensive days, I will be singing from original 15th-century mensural notation, participating in masterclasses, and collaborating with top-tier early music specialists.
Why this matters to me (and my students!):
As I prepare to begin my D.M.A. in Choral Conducting at Louisiana State University this fall, this immersion into historical performance practice will directly elevate my academic research and conducting. More importantly, I am incredibly passionate about bringing world-class musical techniques back home to Lafayette. The skills I gain at Josquamp will immediately benefit the students I direct in Lafayette Parish, and will benefit the young singers of La Voix des Jeunes, the new nonprofit youth choir I am launching in August.
How you can help:
While this is the opportunity of a lifetime, the travel and tuition costs are significant. I am trying to raise $3,000 to cover the expenses of the trip. Here is exactly where your donation will go:
- $850 for the program Tuition
- $450 for roundtrip airfare to California
- $1,000 for 6 nights of lodging near the university
- $400 for food and local transit during the week
- $300 buffer for GoFundMe processing fees and emergency travel contingencies
Whether you can donate $5 or $50, your support means the world to me. If you aren't in a position to donate, simply sharing this campaign with your network is just as helpful! Thank you so much for supporting my education, my students, and the future of choral music in the Acadiana region.
