If you know Kayla and Talon, you know they are the best kind of people. The first to help someone in need, accepting of all, always serving and loving everyone around them. Now is a time when they need our help and love more than ever before. Let's return to them two-fold, what they have done for countless others in their lives and communities.
---
In July 2020, Kayla came down with Covid-19. That was the time her life changed in ways that cannot be fully measured, understood, and, least of all, undone. Kayla is one of 10% of people who has Covid Long-Hauler Syndrome. What exactly does this mean? It means that her body has failed to recover from covid fully - and has developed several other severe disorders from the syndrome.
Before having covid, Kayla was a healthy mother of two - business owner - wife - and friend to everyone she met. She had no medical disorders and was on no medications. Today, Kayla takes 8 medications each day and has been diagnosed with:
- POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome)
- Dysautonomia (malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System)
- Post Extertional Malaise (must take 1-3 naps per day to avoid extreme sickness)
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Fibromyalgia
- Hypertension
- NASH (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease)
- Migraines
- Intermittent brain swelling that causes light sensitivity, confusion, memory loss, speech delays, and hallucinations
- Seizures (leaving her unable to drive or be left alone until further testing is completed and we know what is happening. 24/7 supervision)
- Had to have a Radical Hysterectomy due to blood clots and menorrhagia for 7 months straight after having Covid
- PTSD due to medical trauma and doctors not believing in long covid
- Daily nausea/vomiting
- Short and Long-Term Memory Loss
She had NONE of these conditions before Covid, just two short years ago.
Since this time, Kayla has been very limited in what she can do. A two-hour outing with her family will leave her in bed for two days. This led to Kayla having to step away from the successful Hair and Makeup company she had built from the ground up. Since she was self-employed, she was unable to qualify for Disability through the state. She took a work-from-home job with a local airline in June 2022 to show her work history and accommodations but could only work for two months when medical conditions prevented her physical ability to continue. She is currently on a short-term medical leave of absence for the indefinite future and is waiting to hear if short-term disability pay will go into effect. She is building a case for disability with the state, but it could take years to be approved.
Going from two incomes to one during a time of historically high inflation has created a lot of additional stress for Kayla and her family. With this, we ask for your support. Any amount you can give is genuinely appreciated, and no amount is too small.
