Brighter Days Ahead: Help Amy Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Miranda Bergquist, Amy's sister-in-law, please join me as we support Amy on her journey to recovery from her recent cancer diagnosis. On behalf of the entire family, are reaching out to you today to humbly ask for your support in a mission that is very close to our hearts. Your contribution will go towards paying medical bills, travel costs between Bismarck and Fargo, supporting the costs of specialized treatments, and providing necessary assistance for daily living expenses throughout her treatment and recovery journey, especially for her mother, Mary Jo, and her husband, Blair, and their 3 adopted grandchildren, Logan (16), Sophia (12), and Nevaeh (9).

Here is Amy's story:

To truly understand Amy’s remarkable strength and brave heart when it comes to cancer; we need to start 13 years ago when her journey with cancer began. In 2010, she received the diagnosis of thyroid cancer and then in 2019, Amy faced another formidable obstacle when she learned she had breast cancer, accompanied by a gene mutation known as TP53 that heightens her susceptibility to various cancers. However, Amy's unwavering strength and determination kept her spirit alive, as she fought back and was able to beat both cancers!

As time went on, Amy experienced further hardships. On April 12, 2023, she underwent a bone marrow biopsy, revealing a devastating diagnosis of 2 blood cancers, Multiple Myeloma and Acute Myeloid Leukemia. With her health rapidly deteriorating, Amy was admitted to Sanford Bismarck on May 9th. Soon after, due to her critical condition, she was air-lifted to the Fargo Cancer Center on May 13th. Spending 50 long days of inpatient care, Amy and her loved ones faced these challenges together, battling the illness with unwavering determination. During her hospital stay, Amy received two rounds of chemotherapy, preparing her for a life-saving bone marrow transplant scheduled for September.

Amy is enjoying a short reprieve from the hospital right now back home in Bismarck before her transplant preparation starts up in Fargo, where she will be re-admitted on August 30th. The actual transplant is scheduled for September 6th. Following the transplant, Amy will embark on a crucial period of recovery. She will spend 30 days in the hospital, and then upon her discharge, Amy's journey will continue in Fargo, where she will need to stay for an additional 60 days, requiring her to be within 20 minutes or less from the hospital. During this phase, she will require round-the-clock assistance as she works towards healing and regaining her strength. Her husband Blair and mother Mary Jo will be the primary caregivers during this part of the recovery process.

She knows the road ahead would be difficult, but she faces it with grace and optimism. Amy's unwavering strength and determination continue to inspire us all! From all of us, we greatly appreciate your support and prayers!
