On May 9th, at a little over 27 weeks pregnant, my best friend Rachel and her husband Derek found out they lost their baby girl, Ellen, in utero. This came as a complete shock, considering her otherwise textbook pregnancy. She gave birth to Ellen on May 12, 2020. Many months, tests, and tears later, they still have no answers regarding what led to Ellen's passing. What they do have is $6,000 in medical bills from the labor and delivery. This is AFTER insurance reimbursement.
My best friend endured the most painful and traumatic event she has ever experienced, and now has to pay an incredible amount of money, without even having the joy of bringing her baby home. This is unacceptable to me. I want to raise enough money to pay for all of their medical expenses from that time in FULL.
Rachel is a selfless, amazing mother to her 2 year old son, a full time social worker, and the first person to help someone in need both in her personal and professional life. We can't take away the pain of Ellen's death, but we can take away the financial burden so Rachel and Derek can focus on their personal healing.
