Brielle’s long journey fighting EDS
Donation protected
For those of you who don’t know my gorgeous niece Brielle (19 years old) was diagnosed last year with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) which is a rare and very debilitating condition that affects muscles, ligaments, organs, veins, joints and everything in between.
We are seeking financial assistance to help Brielle as she has a very long road of recovery ahead of her.
Background information
Brielle spent 6 weeks in hospital last year due to suffering over 50 shoulder dislocations and 8 operations in a week. This is when she was diagnosed with EDS.
Over the past few months Brielle has had major hip issues resulting in her frequently using a cane or wheelie walker. This escalated two and a half weeks ago when she had a suspected hip dislocation and was admitted to hospital. Since then she has had inhumane chronic and acute pain and now is being tube fed and has 30+ different medical conditions all related to her EDS.
Thankfully Brielle is now in the Austin hospital being looked after by EDS specialists. The first step is trying to get her acute medical needs under control (as much as they can) and then she will probably need months of rehab as at the moment she is unable to walk as she can’t move her legs and there are days when she is unable to use her arms.
Whilst Brielle will somewhat recover from this severe flare up unfortunately she is unable to return to a normal healthy lifestyle and over the years she will become more reliant on care as she will find it increasingly difficult to manage day to day tasks.
Financial Assistance
We are reluctantly asking for donations on behalf of Brielle and Donna (Brielle’s mum and my sister) for the following
* ongoing medical costs including
* travel and accommodation expenses related to long hospital stays and specialist appointments
* modifications to the house so it is wheelchair friendly for times when Brielle is unable to walk
* cover living expenses as Donna is a single mum and she has and will continue to need to take time off work during hospital stays and it will unfortunately come to the point where she may need to give up work to care for Brielle.
Donna is too proud to ask for help so we are doing this on their behalf with their reluctant permission. If you can spare some money it will greatly be appreciated.
