Brie Parks' 2021 LBDI Campaign

Tax deductible
I am participating in The Junior League of Topeka’s Little Black Dress Initiative, a campaign to raise awareness about the challenges that face 1 in 6 Topekans – 16% of who are children. As an Advocate, I will join other women in wearing one black dress - the same black dress - for five days in a row to:

  • RAISE AWARENESS of Community Instability
  • ILLUSTRATE how limited resources affect daily life; and
  • RAISE FUNDS TO Support the Junior League of Topeka’s programs to fight Community Instability such as Capital Impact Leadership Summit for high school students in Shawnee County, Feminine Hygenie Packs for those who lack this basic necessity, materials to support a trauma room at the YWCA and Ongoing community needs related to Community Instability.

The Little Black Dress is symbolic of how poverty is deemed to be unfashionable but impacts more people than most realize. It's a Little Black Dress to demonstrate how what you wear impacts how you're perceived and it's the SAME Little Black Dress to illustrate how when you lack options you lack opportunity.

We have more than 25,000 in our community who are food insecure. I'm proud to be a part of the amazing legacy of the Junior League of Topeka and the training I've received is invaluable. The Junior League of Topeka has been a pillar of our community for 85 years, founding organizations like Meals on Wheels, CASA, The Ronald McDonald House, Kansas Children's Service League and most recently the Diaper Depot. It's been a humbling experience to have the opportunity to learn from the individuals this organization has helped support over the years.

I hope you will support me in this initiative by following my journey on social media this week. You can help by sharing my posts to increase awareness and by making a donation HERE to the Junior League of Topeka’s Little Black Dress Initiative, which will support the League’s efforts to fight community instability and violence! My goal is to raise $500, will you help? Even the smallest of donations has potential for big impact! I can also take cash or check.
