Hi! Our names are Amy & Todd Lawton. We are establishing this Go Fund Me to help our niece, Bridget Dunn. Bridget has been struggling with narcolepsy for sometime now. She was fortunate enough to get involved with Stanford University through a seminar conducted in Rochester to test Bridget's DNA for the sleep hormone hypocretin. Narcolepsy is an autoimmune disorder, therefore, if they do not find adequate hypocretin...then we have a diagnosis of narcolepsy.
Narcolepsy is an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks the bodies hypocretin. Karin stated that the baseline 'good' number for hypocretin is 350, anything under 100 is a form of narcolepsy. The official word from Stanford Univeristy is that Bridget's hypocretin level is at "0."
This has been called a "Hidden Disease" and can be pretty scary to a 13 year old girl. She wants nothing more than to not feel tired, have a few friends that will accept her disability, and understand she is still the same creative, sweet Bridget. We just have to make sure she gets more rest, and the next step for answers is to travel to Stanford University in California to continue Bridget's treatment.
Bridget's orginal appoointment was to be in June of this year. A cancellation has occured and Bridget will be able to make her fisrt trip to Stanford University in San Fancisco, CA to meet with Dr. Mignot on February 17th. He does have a treatment that has been helping many people with narcolepsy/cataplexy.
This fund has been established to help cover the many expenses it will take to get Bridget and her family to California to meet with these doctors. The trip is quickly approaching and we would be so thankful if you could help with as little or as much to help cover these costs for a young girl with hope for a more normal life.
