Bridge the Gap: Support Long Island Kids

Imagine growing up in a community where every child has access to the best education, where classrooms are filled with supplies, and where opportunities are abundant. This is the reality in Dix Hills, a prosperous neighborhood on Long Island with an average household income of $209,217. We’ve experienced firsthand the benefits of this environment throughout our lives.

However, just a few miles away, children in Wyandanch face a very different reality. With an average household income of $87,699, the community struggles to provide essential school supplies and resources for its students. The stark contrast between Dix Hills and Wyandanch is not just in income, but in the opportunities available to their children. Long Island has multiple towns similar to Wyandanch where there is a large discrepancy between income and lifestyles.

We are Kanv Sondhi, Jie Dong, and Evan Mathew, 12th graders at Half Hollow Hills West. As we prepare to graduate and step into the next chapter of our lives, we feel a deep sense of responsibility to help bridge this gap. We believe that every child, regardless of their zip code, deserves access to quality education and the tools they need to succeed.
