In the wake of the massive blast that rocked Lebanon’s capital Beirut last week, hundreds of thousands of homes are left in ruins. Countless families have been displaced with no means to rehabilitate their homes. With the economic crisis currently gripping Lebanon, these families need help now more than ever.
A number of Beirut’s oldest districts have been stricken where old buildings need urgent attention. Our aim is to collect donations from individuals and institutions looking to extend a helping hand in the reconstruction of these homes, given the none existence of governmental support. Funds will go toward the full rehabilitation of homes that need urgent attention. The scope of work will include shoring and propping up buildings when needed, repouring of slabs and walls, reinstallation of windows and doors and refurnishing homes.
Personnel includes 20 engineers, 10 foremen and 100 laborers. Materials include masonry, plaster, concrete, paint, tiles, steel, gypsum and wood. Our team’s body of work spans across 15 years in the construction industry in Lebanon, focusing on infrastructure and buildings. Progress of work will be monitored on a daily basis with weekly reports compiled and shared with our donors. Visual representations will also be published on our social media platforms.
Our first project will tackle a building on the verge of collapsing. It is the home of a family, consisting of a brother and sister, in severe financial distress. They lost their parents at a young age, with the brother forced to work a number of low wage jobs to make ends meet. The house has already been propped while awaiting funds to revamp the damaged structure, ceiling, plumbing, aluminum and glass.
