We were all shocked to learn about the passing of Noel Boone last week. Noel is the father of 3~ Lorraine, Briana and Noah. He was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia and was a standout athlete at Booker T. Washington High School. After his niece and his son graduated, Noel relocated to Florida(less than 2 months ago). Life was good and he was excited for their futures, as well as his own. Sadly, he passed away suddenly on August 1st.
Just a little about Noel, the family man & dad~For the last few years he served as caregiver for his twin brother Joel who suffered a stroke. Noel stepped up to help raise his niece Arianna(Joel's daughter).
As a dad, he was ridiculously proud of his children. He would light up when his oldest daughter Lorraine (LuLu) entered the room with his 4 granchildren. He loved to joke and make them laugh. He looked forward to his daily calls from LuLu.
Noah, his one and only son graduated in June and is entering his first year of college on a full scholarship. Like most dad's Noel enjoyed watching his son the athlete on the field, the track, and the court. Oh, and of course "Mr. GQ" himself was always ready to step into the role of Noah's personal stylist for special occasions. However, in recent years what he grew to appreciate most was the chance to groom his boy into a man. He just wanted to prepare his son for the real world.
Briana "Bri" was a true daddy's girl. If you've ever seen them together~ that bond was so evident. Every Valentine's Day Bri would get dolled up expecting her date to wine and dine her, and he NEVER disappointed. Noel would show up, flowers in hand, ready for quality time and fine dining with his baby girl(year after year without fail). As Bri was preparing for her sophomore year of college, her dad was very particular about where and with whom she'd live. He made it his business to go down to N.C. to select a place suitable and safe for his princess.
While our hearts ache for them, the truth is most of us can't relate to what this type of life changing, heart piercing, sudden loss feels like for a young adult(child). The good thing is that we don't need to know how it feels in order to help. If you know Bri and Noah's mom, Colleen Boone, you know that she is always quick to give and slow to take. A countless number of us have benefited from her sincere heart to serve others. Naturally, in a time like this everyone wants to give back to the giver. How can we help?
Knowing Colleen, she would sooner work a 3rd job before asking for anything. Thank God she has people around her that aren't waiting for her to ask. We know the importance of her being present (not in between 2 or 3 work shifts)to support her children emotionally as they navigate thru all of this. With no evidence of an insurance policy, and school about to start....things will be rough, as Noel was paying Briana's rent and helping with other expenses. Villagers, can we try our best to cover most of Bri's expenses?
As Colleen always says~ IT TRULY TAKES A VILLAGE!
