As many of you may know by now, my sister, Brianna, suffered a stroke on the morning of Thursday, May 6th. Home alone and rendered temporarily hemiplegic, Brianna crawled across her floor for 45 minutes in order to reach her phone and call for help. Her wonderful friends along with amazing paramedics came to the rescue within minutes. They were able to transport her to a local hospital in Pensacola, FL where she was given life saving care.
During Brianna's time at the hospital, it was discovered that the stroke was the result of a blood clot in the left cerebellum of Brianna's brain. The clot itself was caused by a hole in the septum wall of Brianna's heart, called a PFO. This hole lead to the mixture of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood which subsequently caused the blood clot. In order to repair this hole, Brianna underwent heart surgery on Monday, May 10th. The surgery was successful and the PFO was corrected to prevent any further complications.
I know I can speak for Brianna and our entire family when I say that we are incredibly grateful for the care she received as it resulted in a truly remarkable recovery. As I am sure many of you can imagine, that care came at a fairly significant cost and unfortunately it appears that much of that care will not be covered by Brianna's insurance. In order to help with these costs, I am creating a this page in hopes that you might lend a helping hand to my wonderful sister in her time of need.
Much love to all those who have reached out, provided assistance, love and support! Brianna is surrounded by amazing people!
Thank you,
Brianna, Shaun and Family
