Dear Friends,
Unknowing to us (we had our suspicions), Brianna and her daughter have been in a situation as of late that has involved neglect and abuse by her caregiver. I cannot/will not divulge who this is. They have been residing in Missouri for several years and she has been keeping us in the dark as much as possible, due to threats and a little pride. Their situation came to light this past week when our father and I went to visit. Her caretaker became upset and threatened us with violence. We went anyway.... Due to the threats to us and herself the day we travelled, Brianna asked to have the police called. When we finally arrived, her caretaker had been arrested for neglect and abuse. This was a decision of the police department.
The situation was worse than we ever expected, as we'd visited in years past when Bri was more mobile. With only 24 hours until the caretaker's release, we had to remove Bri and her daughter, who is 12 years old. It was a horrible few days, uprooting them completely with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a few personal items. Within two days, when I had to get our father back to his medication and myself back to Texas, we left them both in safe havens.
So here we are. Both are safe and getting care. We have long term plans. The state will be bringing charges against this individual. Bri and her daughter will need counseling and continued care. So many of you have noticed Bri’s absence from Facebook and have asked what is wrong. So many have contacted her. This is going to be a struggle physically, mentally and financially on them. Any donations will go to care for both of them. Help with medical costs and any moving expenses to get them set up and stable over the next few months in a new place.
Bri is struggling to deal with just little things day to day and is emotionally drained. She is the bravest and strongest person I have ever known. I am so profoundly proud of her and thankful we decided to visit. It was time we verify our suspicions, but it was Brianna who took that leap of faith and trusted the police, and finally us, with the truth.
I cannot provide any additional information in order to keep both safe, and so perhaps this may be the only way to help them. We thank you for your thoughts, your prayers, and any other assistance offered. I will keep you posted.
Sincerely,
Kimberlee
