Briana's flight for life
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Patricia Matrona-Oehrlein. My sister, Colleen Matrona-Fischer, and I are raising funds for my daughter Briana Matrona. On 9/2/22, Briana and Michael Boyan welcomed a healthy 8lb5oz baby girl into our lives, Lola Lynn Boyan. The next day they brought her home to her big sister and brother, Paige and Ronan. Unfortunately, three days later, Briana fell to the ground and was rushed to the ER at St. Anthony's Hospital in Crown Point, IN.
She was diagnosed with a retroperitoneal hematoma caused by an aneurysm on her left ovarian artery. She was scheduled to be transferred to Northwestern Hospital but became unstable. Due to the extreme blood loss, she was given a massive blood transfusion. Still, she underwent hemorrhagic shock and had emergency surgery to embolize the artery. Even though the surgery brought her stable, there was still bleeding elsewhere, and she had to take a flight for life to Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. There she had further surgery and was placed on a ventilator in ICU for two days. Finally, on 9/16/22, she returned home and was able to hold her new baby girl for the first time in two weeks!
Now home, her recovery will be extensive with visits from nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Her body will take several months to absorb the hematoma, which causes much pain and discomfort. Her condition is rare, with only a 2% survival rate. She's a fighter, and words alone are not enough to describe how grateful we all are that she survived! Thank you in advance for your support. All proceeds will go to any uncovered medical bills and financial support to Briana Matrona and her family. Please share #brianasflight
