Briana's Breast Cancer Fight
Six months ago, Briana was still nursing her youngest daughter Piper, last week she had a bilateral mastectomy...
Hi, my name is Trish Dwyer and Briana Stone is my daughter. In December 2020 Briana, her husband David, their oldest daughter, 2 year old Rowan and their new baby Piper moved to Utah for David's new job. A brand new college degree, this was new beginning, exciting and full of new adventures, new opportunities and dreams.
In February 2021 Briana, still nursing 6 month old Piper, noticed a lump in her right breast. Being a seasoned nursing mom, she was sure this was just a milk duct issue, and followed previous medical advice on how to treat a clogged milk duct. The lump however, did not go away. In fact, it seemed bigger. After a visit to the doctor, Briana was sent for a mammogram, which ended in a sonogram and a biopsy. In June 2021 Briana was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Last week, on July 21, 2021 Briana had a bilateral ( both breast removed ) mastectomy. On July 29, 2021 Briana found out that upon testing the lymph nodes that were removed during surgery, 11 of the 15 nodes tested positive for cancer. The cancer is more advanced that previously thought and Briana will need chemotherapy and more than likely radiation as well.
Moving just six short months ago, during a pandemic, hasn't allowed Briana and David to make many local friends or build any real support system in Utah. With Utah's current covid protocols, the girls are not allowed to attend any appointments or treatments with Briana. David currently has to drop Briana off at the hospital/doctor and drives around with the girls until Briana is ready to go. The morning of Briana's mastectomy, she had to check herself into the hospital, and undergo surgery alone, until I could get to Utah that day and take the girls. David was there when she got to recovery.
Your donations will help Briana afford daycare / sitters for doctor appointments and treatments so that David will be able to attend them with Briana and be by her side. It will also help cover deductibles and co-pays as well as in home help with housework and meals. Since they do not have any family local, these services will need to be paid for. My hope is to raise enough money to help provide Briana support for the daily things two small girls and a household require, alleviating some stress and allowing Briana to focus on her healing and beating this cancer.
