Brian Watkins Funeral Fund

My little brother, Brian, was the most amazingly vibrant, loving force you could imagine, and he took his own life last month, at the age of 34.  It’s hard for us to understand how someone could do such a thing. We have this idea that if we just try hard enough, we can change things. We don’t like the thought that some things can’t be changed, no matter how hard the person tries, no matter how much support they have. I believe that Brian was able to stay in this world for so long, because of all the wonderful people and communities in his life. His timeline was extended because of the loving support of the people in this room. But eventually even all that love was not enough to keep him here. Understand that Brian’s painful struggle is over and he may now find the peace he sought with such effort in life.

Brian was generous, loving, and dedicated to his family. He was always there, at the drop of a hat, if you needed anything. His devotion to his family was the foundation of his actions - the anchor that defined and shaped his life. Yet he was also there for his friends. I know there were many times when each one of you found solace in Brian's advice, friendship or humor. Friends weren’t friends to him, they were family.  If you were lucky enough to be counted on that list, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for you.

Each of us has a moment to cling to that was most characteristically Brian. And the beautiful part about it is, they're all different. They're all different because Brian was everything. Whether it was his compassion toward anyone who needed it or his incredible strength and relentlessness; his patience or his obstinance, his unabashed laughter or his soothing words, his wisdom or his somewhat silly boyish fun, the pranks, the impressions, the movie quotes.

At this time, we would like to support Wei Ling, Ashton and Cruz in the most fitting manner possible as we continue, as a community, to come to terms with this devastating loss. For those looking to offer their support to Brian's family, we ask that you consider making a donation to this GoFundMe campaign, and encourage you to please share with your network of friends & family. We realize that offering financial support to the Watkins family during this uncertain time may be difficult for some. Please know that any amount is appreciated tremendously as we work closer to reaching our fundraising goal. Funds raised will be used as follows:

First : to cover funeral costs,

Second: to cover educational aspirations for Ashton & Cruz

Thank you all. Please stay healthy and safe. We are all in this together.
