Brian Schacht’s Burn Rehabilitation and Expenses
Last week my brother Brian was severely injured in a unforeseen accident while clearing brush from his property with his son Kaden who was not injured. Brian suffered burns to 70% of his body and was immediately air-lifted to a burn unit in Atlanta, which is two hours away from his family's home. Brian is a veteran who has served 15 years as an Infantryman with multiple tours in the Global War on Terrorism. Brian has endured a lot of difficult situations, but this traumatic accident raises new challenges.
Brian is receiving exceptional care for which we are grateful. His physicians expect he'll be in the burn unit for an extended period of time to mitigate the chances of infection. Brian's recovery journey will be long, but we are confident he'll make a full recovery.
This journey presents a few significant new challenges. Lauren drives four hours daily to be with Brian and encourages him to fight through the excruciating pain. Paid time-off is limited and coordinating care for Kaden and Kinsley is a daily priority. The purpose of this GoFundMe effort is to alleviate some of the financial burdens allowing Brian and Lauren to focus on the most important priority, his recovery. Funds raised here will be explicitly used to cover all medical expenses, fuel cost related to Lauren's long drives, hotel expenses for occasional overnights so she can rest well, and household bills and other unpredictable expenses during this time.
My brother has been through multiple no win situations in his past, never quitting and always coming out on top which is why I know he'll successfully climb this hill. Supporting Brian, Lauren, Kaden, and Kinsley is my focus. Sunday I travel to Atlanta to help with the kids, prepare meals, and anything else they need.
Please consider a gift to support Brian and his family. To help get the word out, you can share the link to any of your Social Media Platforms. We are extremely grateful for any support provided to his family during this difficult time.
