Hi my name is Linda and I started a gofundme for Brian Payne my son-in-law.
Brian was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in November 2022. He’s being treated in Chicago, about a 2 hour drive from their home in Byron, IL. When he’s there, my daughter Lisa splits her time between him, and home where their two kids (ages 12 and 15) go to school.
Treatment for Brian’s particular type of Leukemia is a stem cell transplant/bone marrow transplant. After the transplant, Brian is required to stay close to the hospital for the following 3 months and have a caregiver with him 24 hours a day. Many medical complications have delayed his transplant which is now tentatively scheduled for early May.
Due to the delays, short term disability is running out. Long term disability only pays up to 60% of his salary. In addition to the reduced income, they will have added expenses. They will be responsible for the full cost of insurance (medical alone is $1,600/mo). Lisa and Brian will also need temporary housing in Chicago. The hospital has a “low cost” option that will be about $75/day.
