Brian Mackay Learning Farm Fund
Donation protected
We are colleagues and friends of Brian Mackay. Days prior to his passing he was making phone calls, considering tax implications, and putting all his energies behind getting support to create a educational farm where young, prospective farmers could get their hands dirty, learn, and innovate. A learning farm provides an environment where business risk is low enough to try new ideas and fuel climate smart agricultural practices on PEI. This fund will provide seed capital to develop a proof of concept of how this can work. All monies spent will be publicly reported and directed at (1) sponsoring young farmers, (2) sourcing specialized equipment for climate smart regenerative agriculture, and (3) sourcing land where young farmers can learn and experiment in a risk managed environment. The first project we are planning to launch is a small 3-5 acre plot of kernza, a perennial wheat that has the potential to build soil and produce food at the same time. Reach out to us if you are interested in learning more about climate smart, sustainable, regenerative agriculture on PEI and how you can help.
