Brian Campbell Family Medical Emergency

Donation protected
In October of 2020 Brian’s life started to change. He went from an active 52 year old father of 3 that was always doing a project, to not being able to walk and or do normal activities without being in incredible pain. Over the course of 2 months he had countless doctor visits and a trip to the emergency room, but was left with no real answer as to why this was happening.

On December 14th, Brian began to experience even more excruciating pain along with numbness and tingling in his hands and feet. Over the next few days the pain became even worse, he began to trip when walking and was having difficulty with his grip. On the morning of December 18th, Brian could hardly walk and he noticed he was choking when trying to swallow. By 9 pm that night Brian could no longer walk!! His 2 boys had to carry him to the car so they could take him to the ER. It was then that he finally got a diagnosis:  Guillain-Barre disease.

Guillain-Barre is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first symptoms. These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralyzing your whole body.

And quickly spread it did! Brian was admitted to the Intensive Care unit unable to walk, swallow, move his legs or arms; his body was slowly becoming paralyzed. On Saturday, December 19th Brian was put on a ventilator, he was no longer able to breath on his own. Brian was on a ventilator for 5 days and spent 10 days in the intensive care unit.

Brian is now at Marion Joy Rehabilitation Center. Many months of in or outpatient therapy will still be needed. Brian’s recovery could take months and even years, at great expense beyond insurance coverage.
Among adults recovering from Guillain-Barre syndrome: ● About 80% can walk independently six months after diagnosis ● About 60% fully recover motor strength one year after diagnosis ● About 5% to 10% have very delayed and incomplete recovery.

At this time Brian is unable to walk, stand, sit up without assistance, and he has very limited use of his hands causing difficulty with basic self-care like brushing his teeth, feeding, grooming, dressing etc. Despite these challenges, he remains positive and upbeat! He is optimistic about making a full recovery and wants nothing more than to come home and be with his wife and kids!

How you can help:
With love and support from family and friends we can help Brian, his wife and 3 kids get through this incredibly difficult time. They are in need of your support to help with: ● a loss of income ● putting a shower on the main level of our home ● medical expenses ● rehabilitation costs ● medical equipment and the possible need to make the home ADA accessible.

Brian wants to get back to his family! Loving, caring, laughing and being with them is what keeps him fighting. Please help us and fight along with Brian! Any donation is one step closer to showing Brian he is not ALONE! The family is forever grateful for any love and support!

To help get the word out, please share Brian’s story.

Thank you from Brian's Family, residents of North Aurora Illinois in the suburban Chicago area, and all Brian's friends and co-workers in the Chicagoland area and everywhere!
