Brian Anderson's CCU Bills

My name is Jason Glaza, and I am creating this GoFund Me on behalf of Brian, Nica, and Baby Anderson.

Brian Anderson is a man that you can't help but love. People who know him will attest to his hard work, outgoing charisma, and love for others. Brian has a heart of gold and will do everything he can to help others. Brian and his wife Nica are expecting their first child.  Recent medical expenses have become too much to bear, and the Anderson family has agreed to reach out for help.

Brian is a miracle in every sense of the word. When he was very young, Brian had multiple brain surgeries due to a tumor present from birth.  Brians's doctors doubted his ability to live to adulthood, let alone to live a life as fulfilling as he has with a wife and a baby on the way. Brian was living his best life when in his early 30's was diagnosed with testicular cancer.  He underwent chemotherapy, radiation and stem cell therapy.  Brian had been in remission for a few years when his most recent medical emergency presented itself.

Brian was admitted to IMMC ED for migraine and confusion on February 23rd. 2022. Doctors performed a CT scan and found fluid on Brians's brain. Shortly after the CT scan, Brian was admitted to IMMC Critical Care Unit and, the following day, underwent a 5-hour emergency brain surgery.  Doctors found that the shunt placed over 30 years ago to drain excess fluid from his brain had become broken, causing increased intracranial pressure. The doctors spent hours removing the old shunt that had become encapsulated in healthy tissue. Extensive work was required to remove the shunt in small pieces causing more bleeding than doctors had wanted. A new temporary shunt was placed until a second surgery could be arranged for a permanent shunt. The days to come would be a challenge for Brians's recovery.

Doctors have been continuously testing the draining fluid and have been watching the protein, blood, hemoglobin and fluid coming from his shunt and battling the risks vs. benefits of surgery dates. Before the planned surgery date, the draining fluid showed an infection in his cerebrum, delaying the surgery further. Doctors are still waiting for the safest time to perform the permanent shunt placement surgery. Until then, Brian is waiting and fighting to recover.

Brian and Nica, and Baby Anderson need your help. The medical bills are climbing higher and higher each day. They would never ask for money or charity but have agreed to this GoFund Me due to these extenuating circumstances.  Updates will be made as they are provided by Nica and Brian. Prayers are also gladly welcomed.  Nica also has a paypal @nicaanderson and a venmo @Nica-Anderson if you prefer.

Update: 4 weeks after Brian was admitted into CCU, Brian's infection was gone and he was ready for his permanent shunt surgery. His surgery was very successful. Brian has went through several CT scans and each scan showed that his shunt is working correctly. After his surgery, Brian spent a couple more days in CCU and then a couple days in a regular hospital room where he had to pass several tests to prove he was strong enough to go home. On March 30, Brian was discharged from the hospital. Brian spent the next couple days catching up on his rest. On Friday,  April 1st, Brian had his sutures taken out and had a CT scan done. The CT scan showed more positive news. His shunt is working perfectly and Brian is dealing with the effects of being on bed rest for 4 weeks while in CCU. He has to start walking more everyday and spending more time awake than sleeping. On April 26th, Brian will have his next CT scan and will meet with Dr. Sherrill. Brian should be able to drive his truck and return to work after his appointment with Dr. Sherrill.  Continued Prayers for healing and recovery are appreciated.
