Brian and Ursula's love story began approximately 20 years ago. They met at the Arvada Police Department while Ursula was working as a dispatcher and Brian was working as a patrol officer. Shortly after their wedding Ursula was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and not given long to live. Ursula has beaten those odds these past 18 years and she and Brian have been given the gift of time to continue to live out their love story.
Brian eventually became a K9 handler with Arvada PD and Ursula's role was devoted K9 handler's wife. K9 handlers have a special bond with their dogs and sometimes it's only a bond between handler and dog--no one else. Brian's dogs have always bonded with Ursula, too, which in the K9 world, is a huge testament to Ursula's personality.
It seems that this chapter of Brian and Ursula's love story may be coming to a close as Ursula is currently in hospice care at their home. They have known that this day may come but it still doesn't make it any easier to accept. We are setting up this fund on their behalf and we know they would be blessed by any amount you could donate to help cover the massive medical bills they've incurred over the years.
We started this fund to honor Ursula for fighting brain cancer so bravely and tirelessly these past 18 years. Law enforcement is a thankless job these days but we also believe this is a way we can thank both of them for their service to the community. We are honored to know them and call them our friends.
