My name is Madeline Mercer and I wanted to start this to help a few awesome people in a time of need. Brian was taken in on July 19th for brain surgery, to make a burr hole to drain a fluid mass caused by hydrocephalus. He was sent home on the 20th after what seemed to be a successful procedure. On the morning of the 21st he had a seizure. He was then rushed back to Harris Fort Worth where for 14 days, it went unnoticed that the burr hole wasn’t working. During this time he had 10 more episodes, including a stroke. After the stroke he experienced and is still dealing with a visual field cut in both eyes. He was placed into ICU where they performed another procedure to determine if he needed a shunt. They then clamped the area for 6 hours to see if it would cause neurological decline, in which it did. They decided to put in a VP Shunt, so far he is doing better. With that said they have a long road ahead. He has been released from texas rehabilitation of Keller and he will be sent to outpatient therapy for 4-5 days a week over the next 30-90 days to help regain or improve his sight; and hopefully get his drivers license back. Brian owns B and M pest control and has been off 60+ days and possible 90 more and he is the main source of income for the family. They were counting on hay to help supplement this loss, but we are in a drought. He has spent 29 days in the hospital and 10 in inpatient rehabilitation center.
