Breylon Wants to Walk!!: We Need Your Support!
Donation protected
This is Breylon. He is almost 5 years old. Breylon has Cerebral Palsy due to extreme prematurity and severe brain bleeds. Right now he can walk short distances with the help of his reverse walker. Breylon's biggest desire is to be able to walk without his walker. He was recently approved to have SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) surgery this summer, which may help him walk better. The surgery targets nerves that send the signal for spasticity to the muscles of the legs. During surgery some of these nerves are cut, leaving the patient with less spasticity in the legs, thus allowing them to move the legs more normally. The surgery has a great outcome but requires a long, tough recovery with a lot of therapy. After surgery, Breylon will initially recover on the neuro floor, and when he is medically stable, he will transfer to a rehab hospital, where he will stay inpatient for 3-6 weeks in order to receive intensive therapy to gain muscle strength as well as learn how to walk using his muscles now instead of spasticity. After his inpatient stay, he will continue to need intensive outpatient therapy 4-5 days a week for several months.
Right now, to make this happen, we need a village! I am asking for donations to help our family in many ways during this time. I will need to spend a lot of time at the hospital with Breylon and probably will go back and forth frequently. Money may go towards gas, (tolls and parking fees while downtown), childcare for the other kids, pet care if needed, food and groceries, things Breylon or I may need while at the hospital, etc. I would also love to be able to buy any recommended items that will help him continue his therapy at home after he is discharged.
We would also be grateful if any friends would rather directly donate gift cards (GrubHub, DoorDash, grocery, restaurant, gas, Amazon, etc.) or even if you are close by and are able to help at all with babysitting at home (or your house) for a few hours (or more), or taking a shift to sit with Breylon at the hospital so I can go home. I understand these are all big asks, so we appreciate any help that is offered. Please share this if you can! Thank you so much for supporting Breylon in his journey and cheering him on!
Here is Breylon's Amazon wishlist if you would like to send him something to keep him busy during his recovery. It has some helpful and fun items to keep him busy while at the hospital.
