The picture above is my daughter on Chimney Rock with the town and Lake Lure in the background. I used to bike commute from Bat Cave, NC through Chimney Rock on my way to work in Lake Lure after I graduated college (fun summer!).
Western North Carolina is a place that introduced me to camping, reintroduced me to bluegrass music, gave me my first tech support job post graduation and introduced me to 'proper mountain biking' in the Pisgah forest. It's literally been a life changing place for me and my 30+ years in NC.
It's going to be a long road back for many folks and I want to help.
My company (BC Solutions, Inc) is going to match dollar for dollar up to $5000. We are driving up there on October 8th and plan to raid the local Triangle grocery stores for all the water and non perishable supplies we can give.
For those who know me personally and want to directly send me money for those supplies, just reach out to me and I'll give you my Venmo. It still will be part of the match.
For those who don't have the funds right now but want to help....
Do you know anyone who manages a local (Apex, Cary, etc) grocery store and can help gather supplies and maybe offer a discount if we buy a couple thousand dollars of groceries?
Do you know anyone with a box truck rental biz that can help? I'm not sure how much we'll raise but my truck will fill rapidly and more room the more we bring.
Finally, a lot of folks may want to know "why is your fundraiser for Pisgah Sorba and what the heck is it?"
Mountain Biking is a huge tourism driver all over the world now and in particular in Brevard where I intend to retire. While short term supplies are needed for those in desperate situations, long term the tourism drivers will need help too. Pisgah SORBA is one of the primary groups that creates, clears and maintains trails. They are going to need chainsaws, gas, rakes, shovels and so much more to rebuild the trails that people travel from around the world to visit.
