This is a call to action for everyone reading this story to donate, share, encourage, and pray for this beautiful family.
A little back story for those unfamiliar.... In 2016 Brett Van Handel began a sudden and life-threatening battle with Osteosarcoma. The disease that would eventually take his entire left femur and cause several spots on his lungs to have to be painfully removed, would ultimately be defeated through multiple surgeries, massive chemotherapy, a community in prayer, and your donations!
However, on a recent wellness check it was revealed that the Osteosarcoma had returned and Brett had to undergo immediate surgery on his spine to remove a large tumor. There is absolutely no quit in this brave little warrior but the surgery wasn't able to remove all of the cancer and this terrible disease continued to attack his weary body. Despite a valiant battle Brett went home to rest with the Lord on July 3, 2109.
It has been said that pain and sadness is not evenly distributed in this world and unfortunately this strong family is a living example of this. As many of you already know, Brett's father - Heath Van Handel, was a pilot and wildland firefighter who died in the line of duty 10 years ago. The loss of Heath created an unimaginable void in Brett's life and that of his family. We all know that Heath was immensely proud of Brett's battle and now that he has been called home, they are reunited again and enjoying the peace of an eternal home with our Lord and Saviour.
As you can imagine, medical bills as well as other significant expenses have added up exponentially and this family needs our help more than ever. Please support The Bretter Memorial Fund by making a donation right now so that we can help show Jenny, Matt and especially Big Bad Bretter that this world is still full of goodness and selflessness.
Much love to you all in advance and although you hear it all the time, it is so very true, every little bit helps! It doesn’t take each of us donating thousands of dollars, make a ripple with any donation you are able and watch it grow.
Many of you have contributed in the past and there are no words or actions to express the gratitude this proud yet humble family has for all who stand with them physically, emotionally, and financially. The English writer, John Bunyan once wrote: “You have not lived today until you do something for someone who can never repay you.” Rise up Fight Team, Live Today!
