Brett Taylor's Recovery

Donation protected
*A second update on Brett from Tracy: On Sunday evening through the night the doctors found an issue with Brett's liver. Monday morning they decided they would have to do an emergency surgery as his artery had a hole in it which was stopping from blood getting to his kidney and liver properly. Monday evening he made it through the surgery to repair the artery. The doctors say we will still not know the severity of the damage to his liver for a couple of days. He is currently off of sedation as they are trying to wake him up to do a neurological exam, this could be hours or a day it all depends on Brett. He is still in critical condition but has had the first good night of the week last night as this is day 8 in the ICU. Keep him in your thoughts as we still have a long road ahead.

*An update on Brett from Tracy: We talked with the doctor this morning and Brett is being put back on dialysis for his kidneys as they are not functioning well at this time. He has fluid in his lungs and also has pneumonia. He is still on life support as he cannot breathe on his own. They will not be taking him off the life support until his kidneys start to function properly and he gets more nutrients into his body. This is not uncommon post surgery but is a setback from yesterday. We are taking it day by day but he is projected to be in the ICU for the next coming weeks. We are staying hopeful. Would like to thank everyone for reaching out and keeping him and our family in your thoughts. *

Dear friends, family, and community,

On April 30th, our beloved father, Brett Taylor, experienced a life-altering event. After waking up with severe chest pain, he was immediately rushed to the emergency room. He was then airlifted to Halifax where they repaired his main artery which had snapped in half.

Although the event was a terrifying ordeal, we were grateful that our father survived it and the subsequent operation. However, we are only in the early stages to recovery, and we received the difficult news that some of his organs are not functioning properly so we are hopeful they will start to function properly with more medication and rest.

Further evaluations will need to be done to determine the extent of the damage. Brett is still on life support and unconscious. The doctors would like him to be stable before trying to wake him again.

The plan forward involves a long road to recovery, and he will be unable to fish for work this season. Tracy will also be with Brett in Halifax for the next projected 3+ weeks so will also be unable to work during this time and possibly beyond.

As his children, we are deeply committed to ensuring the best care possible for our father as he enters this challenging phase of his life.

Today, we humbly reach out to our community, asking for support to raise funds for our father's recovery after he is discharged from the hospital. Your generous contributions will be used to cover travel expenses, medications, home health, and personal care expenses, and all aspects so he doesn't have to worry about the inability to work.

Donations are also accepted at Sam's Restaurant in Charlottetown and Brudenell Tire Centre in Montague. Or send email transfers to [email redacted] (9023935944)

Our father, Brett Taylor, is a good strong man, known both in our local community and beyond. Although he values his privacy, we have decided to let go of some of that privacy to seek assistance for his well-being. We are deeply grateful for any help you can offer in helping us provide the care and support he needs during this challenging time.

Thank you for your kind contributions and for standing with us in supporting Brett.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Tracy, Lucas (Emma), Logan (Emily) and Liam
