I am setting up a Go Fund Me for a good friend and coworker. In the past 5 months Brett Roper and his finance Emma have faced unimaginable hardships. They welcomed their beautiful son Barrett Daniel Roper on April 8th, 2025. Shortly after his birth on May 23, 2025, he was diagnosed with a virus (human metapneumovirus). Barrett needed trachea and open-heart surgery, which resulted in having to spend 93 nights at the Ronald Macdonald house. He is required to go back to the hospital every 2 days for check ups and tests. Barrett is scheduled to return Oct 20,2025 for a Bronchoscopy. He is a strong fighter with the support of mom and dad, he is overcoming the odds he was given.

On Sept 6, 2025, Brett left home at 8 pm heading out to Lingan, NS to go side by siding with some friends, when they got into a horrible accident. Brett was ejected from his side by side when he had slid into an embankment. Stars was called and Brett was air lifted to Halifax in critical condition on Sept 8 from Cape Breton Hospital. He was placed on a ventilator and put into an induced coma until they operated on the morning of Sept 7,25. With multiple surgeries they were able to relieve the swelling and bleeding from his brain along with reconstructing his hand. The doctors set out to wake Brett up from the induced coma. After driving 5 hours, Emma (Brett’s fiancé) arrived at the hospital to find Brett in bad shape. He is showing signs of improvement when he had opened his eyes and grabbed Emma’s hand. Brett has now had the ventilator removed and is on oxygen for comfort. He has a long road to recovery. Brett is still suffering from, a punctured lung, fractured vertebrae, damage to his spleen, and multiple broken bones throughout his body and face.
