Brett was diagnosed in March 2023 with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. He has since been through surgery on his colon and two liver resection surgeries, countless rounds of different types of chemotherapy, radiation beads operation, ablation procedure, ct scans, pet scans, mri’s, blood tests, genetic testing, and appointments with gi doctor, oncologist, colon surgeon, and liver surgeon. His first major surgery was on September 19, 2023. It was a combined colon and liver surgery. They removed a big portion of his colon, lymph nodes & arteries in the surrounding area, and his entire right side of the liver was cut out and removed. He spent 8 nights in the hospital due to some complications. The colon has not been an issue since this surgery. His second major surgery was on January 28, 2025 which included a second liver resection and an ablation procedure on the largest tumor in his liver which is wrapped around the inferior vena cava-an important vein that carries blood to the heart so this tumor is inoperable. He is currently getting chemotherapy through a pump every other week with a ct scan of his liver every 3 months. The goal is to get Brett to stay steady with a low tumor marker rating and to be able to switch to chemo pills, and possibly be able to stop chemo altogether one day as long as things stay steady. Liver transplant is not an option until Brett becomes cancer-free and stays cancer-free for 5 years.
