Brett Cleveland’s DRG Surgery and Recovery
Donation protected
My husband Brett Cleveland will undergo his second dorsal root ganglion stimulator implant surgery on July 17th, 2023. In October 2022 he had the original procedure done with a sixteen week recovery, not only did the doctor perform the surgery incorrectly, he also provided false information on the limitations that apply following the procedure. The reason surgery is needed is because in 2002 he was in a car accident where he was heliported and pronounced dead upon arrival. He was in a coma for three weeks due to the life threatening injuries he suffered. His femur split in half and went inside itself, doctor’s put it in traction, but weren’t able to pull it apart causing the left leg to be two inches shorter than his right leg. Then, a titanium rod was placed from the knee to the hip, including a pin through the rod and hip. It wasn’t until years later that doctors discovered that the broken femur was reset twisted at a ninety degree angle. The last resort option would be a femoral derotational osteotomy. This surgery would entail removing the titanium rod and pin, breaking the femur in half, realigning the femur, setting it in place with a new rod and pin. In addition, this would then be the third time he’d relearn how to walk. Also, due to the life threatening injuries he suffered there were other procedures that weren’t performed that now have caused widespread pain that can be treated by the DRG stimulator. Funds will be needed for surgical expenses, medications, therapy, home care, time missed from work as well as maintaining adequate health insurance coverage while off of work. On our behalf we’d like to thank everyone for your support, kindness and countless prayers.
