Brett Carter's Blessings

Donation protected

My Mom is probably going to kill me for doing this BUT, even though they have insurance they will still have to pay a percentage of the medical treatment Brett is receiving. Brett has been in that hospital bed for 11 days now. I have started this for anyone who would like to help out. So many people have helped with things that needed to be done around my mom's and making food for her. Prayers are most important.

He is critical in the cardio vascular ICU at St. Vincent’s East in Trussville. Thursday June 1st, that afternoon he came home from work feeling tired and a bit off, by Friday morning he couldn’t breathe well so my mom made him go to his primary physician. His doctor called my mom and said his BP was 56/38, had a very bad case of pneumonia and needed to be admitted into the hospital now! From Friday morning until Friday afternoon, he started coughing and urinating blood. At that moment the doctors thought he was going into heart failure. Once they ruled that out his O2 levels dropped to 72% and he was gasping for air. His BP was dangerously low and his heart rate was staying around 160. They decided to put him on a respirator. It was breathing 100% for him. He is heavily sedated but could respond by moving his fingers to answer questions. He also has a blood clot in his lung. He then went into complete renal failure. The doctors thought it best to put him on dialysis. Saturday morning while my mother and I were at the hospital his Pulmonary Specialist came in and informed us that they had done all they could do and she thought this was a battle they probably wouldn’t win. My dad has overcame stage 4 colon cancer, has been cured from Hep C through a trial drug, and has flat lined twice from receiving blood because he has an IGA deficiency. As of this morning at 10am, the respirator is down to 55%, meaning he Is breathing 45% himself. His vitals are as stable as they can be at this point. His BP is at 109/65 and a heart rate in the 80's. He is still in A FIB but that’s not an issue, it is more of an annoyance. He's still sedated pretty heavily but we know he can hear us because he will move a body part when we ask him a question. As long as his O2 levels stay above 95% the doctors will continue to lower the vent. His kidneys are functioning well so no more dialysis. We are really appreciative of all your support and prayers. It means the world to me and my family. However, we are still asking for no visitation other than his kids and grandkids. His health is the concern and that's the reason behind this decision. It's not meant to leave anyone out or offend anyone, it's just what's best for him at this time. He is far from being out of the woods. If he back slides the slightest, it could mean the difference between life or death. So bare with us and we will keep everyone updated as often as possible. Thank you all for caring and responding the way you have. This man means the absolute world to me and my family. We need him here for as long as possible. As long as he keeps going in this direction, there is hope. Thank you all for everything and every prayer that has been said.
