Brent's road to stroke recovery
Donation protected
On Tuesday Feb 2nd Brent woke up for work like any other day. At 42 him and his family was definitely not expecting him to fall to have a stroke. Luckily, his wife Amber is a nurse and recognized the signs of a stroke immediately and Brent was rushed to the hospital. He had his first surgery hours after arriving to remove a blood clot from his brain. The Thrombectomy unfortunately was not a success and they were unable to remove the blood clot. After the procedure Brent was placed in the Neuro ICU while more tests, decisions, and observation could occur. On Friday morning doctors noticed his symptoms were worsening and once again rushed him off for emergency surgery due to the swelling on his brain. They successfully did a craniectomy and removed part of his skull to allow for the swelling and pressure. At this time Brent is back in the Neuro ICU for once again more testing, decisions, and observations.
Amber has been amazing through all of this. She has been unable to see Brent due to Covid restrictions in the ICU. She is trying to stay upbeat and positive for their 2 children and make sure they are doing as well as can be expected. I am pretty sure she is my hero, because she is handling this all with such strength, love, and has essentially just been a bad *ss. The children are doing very well also. They of course have a lot of questions and are worried, but they are getting through each day with a calmness and strength that children shouldn’t have to have. However, as hospital bills mount up, time off work without pay extends, the cost of a future rehabilitation facility, and everyday life occurs things are getting financially stressful. I think the last thing Brent, Amber, or the kids need at this moment is more stress when the focus should be on the healing energy Brent needs to get out of the ICU.
Brent has touched many of your lives in one way or another. Whether it has been through coaching your children at recreation or travel softball and baseball, service with you overseas in the Army, working with you, playing baseball with you, or even just going to school with you back in the day. Most of us know Brent is an avid Baseball fan and coach and loves to spend his summers with his kids on their travel teams. I would love to see him be able to enjoy this again and would appreciate your prayers for his healing. In addition to your prayers and emotional support I’d like to ask you to consider donating to his go fund me. I would like to eliminate a small portion of the stress so the family can focus on other things. He will be unable to work for quite some time and will require rehabilitation in a facility that will continue to cause bills to mount up. No one should have to recover worrying about medical bills, rehabilitation facility bills, and dealing with the loss of an income.
As his sister I have been worried all week. I have prayed, cried, been sad, and angry that his is happening to my brother. He is only 42 and life isn’t always fair. Now we have to make the most of it. While I am asking for this support I am also asking for your prayers. I mentioned Brent touching a lot of lives, being a role model as a coach and combat soldier, but I didn’t mention how loved he is. How much his wife, kids, mother, sister, and friends need him.
