Brent McRea passed away unexpectedly last Thursday. Please support my parents and family members with prayers and if you can help with final expenses it would mean the world.

Many of you knew him from Hewitt Trussville High School, Church, Choir - he was a dear friend to so many. Brent and I were so close in age so our friends overlapped growing up. I don't know a kinder person than Brent and our family is devastated as you can imagine.

Some friends of Brent suggested that I post this to help my mother and father with final expenses. The estimate of the goal is to pay off final expenses and honor my brother in this funeral. When he passed he was longing to be healed. Brent had no life insurance and spent his savings on surgeries.

This verse comes to mind when thinking about Brent's life. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Brent struggled with physical pain, had surgeries to try to get relief. He struggled with emotional pain. He formed addictions and he had deep regrets.  The past few years he was on a path to break addiction. We all thought he was on a better path. Now we wish we could turn back the clock and check in on him last week on Wednesday night. He did not wake up on Thursday and we pray that the Lord was merciful in his passing.

Brent had a longing to rest in the shadow of the almighty. He had deep love for family, friends and strangers. Many knew him from his faith and love of our Lord. Church was part of his life and he longed to be close to the Lord. I may have fought with him a couple times as kids and teenagers but I never saw him wish anything bad on anyone. He had a heart of gold.

Brent's testimony is not perfect and he knew he needed Jesus greatly. He was so hard on himself and yet he had the virtues of love, kindness, charity, faith, hope, courage and humility.

In Luke 18 a parable Jesus shares where the two men are praying in the temple - the Pharisee was bragging to God that he was not like the guy in the back beating his chest face down on the ground crying, "O God, be merciful to me, the sinner that I am!" That would be Brent. My brother wanted to know a deep transformation. He prayed for it. He longed for it. In the mystery of this mess and devastation we can now believe he is made perfect in Jesus Christ! This is my only comfort. This is our faith! We believe that absent from this broken body is fully present in the arms of Jesus.

There are so many things about my sweet brother I could say. Some beautiful things that many of his friends did not know. I pray that we all experience real life and love along the way to heaven. If someone you know and love is struggling, don't hesitate to be there and love them through the struggle. We are going to struggle with this massive void and I thank all of you - for your prayers, your kindness and generosity.

The Funds will help mom and dad honor their son, medical bills, and his family that he leaves behind. His life was full of purpose and I believe without doubt in heaven we will see him again. He will be waiting in the arms of our Lord Jesus!

If you would rather give to the church benevolent fund for tax purposes to help in this way please let me know.
