Brent Gonzalez Battle with Stage 4 Colon Cancer

As many of you may already know, Brent Gonzalez was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer metastatic to liver, stomach, and bones (pelivs and spine) in March 2023. He has been fiercely fighting his battle with cancer for about 9.5 months.

Brent completed 12 cycles of chemo, a radiation treatment, and he recently started a vaccine trial called Gritstone, which took Brent’s tumor tissue and created a personalized vaccine. A recent CT scan showed tumor growth in numerous places and no new cancer. His current condition had progressed. Two weeks later on Dec. 14th, Brent received the news that USC could no longer medically treat him due to his liver failure. Due to the trend in the labs of his liver, they’re giving Brent a month timeline and advised that we should move forward with Hospice.

Brent (aka “Gonzo” or "Gonz") is an incredibly hard-working man. Everyone who knows him can attest to his dedication to everything in life. He is employed by Skidata, Inc. and has been able to work this entire time to help keep his mind busy and engaged. His employer has been amazing during this extremely difficult time. As things progress over the coming weeks, Brent will have to step back from his job. Brent was the SOLE provider for his family.

Brent has the most infectious smile that can light up any room. We all love to hate his sarcasm and sense of humor, but if you know Brent, this is Brent to the core. He has touched so many lives over his lifetime, and he will continue to touch lives after he is gone. Brent has a heart of gold.

Brent is a loving husband to his wife Jaime and an incredible father to his 3 young children, Hannah (5.5), Hailey (2.5), and Hudson (2.5). His children are so young and have so much going for them. It’s heartbreaking that they will not have their father physically in their lives to see them grow and experience so many of life’s moments.

We continue to ask for prayers for Brent and his family during this time and in the months to come. They’re incredibly grateful for all the love, support, and contributions they’ve received. Words cannot express their gratitude.
