Support Brent and Courtney Glover

On Friday April 3, 2020 our family was reminded of how quickly life as we know it can change.. how quickly we can go from a comfortable life to the life threatening chaos that is cancer.

One day prior, after not feeling quite right and dealing with fatigue, dizziness and headaches for a few weeks, my younger brother Brent (aka Bert) visited his family doctor at the urging of his wife, Courtney. Dr. Dorna did a thorough exam and ran several tests. While his EKG, chest x-ray, etc came back normal they’d have to wait for his bloodwork results. The results came back late that night and they weren’t good. His white blood cell count was extremely high and his platelets were DANGEROUSLY low. The results were so bad in fact, that the doctor on call started trying to contact Brent at 3:15 AM to get him to the ER IMMEDIATELY. When they arrived Courtney and my parents had to drop him off at the ER entrance and weren’t allowed in due to the COVID-19 restrictions at the hospital.  His blood was immediately tested again as his loved ones sat in their cars in the parking lot. A few hours later Courtney and my/ Brent’s parents were allowed into the room briefly as the oncologist confirmed our fears. Brent was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). By the end of the day he had given blood, taken blood, IV medication, steroids, been sedated and had his hip drilled into for a bone marrow biopsy.

While we all did our best to remain positive and begged God for His mercy and healing touch, we anxiously awaited the results of the biopsy. On Saturday we got the news that Brent’s Leukemia was a subtype of AML called APL. TREATABLE AND BEATABLE. His oncologist Dr. Corso’s exact words were “this is a huge answer to prayer!”

Brent’s treatment plan was set into motion and his chemotherapy was started on Sunday April 5th at 2pm. He’ll receive chemo 24 hours per day for 7 days, where his bone marrow will be completely stripped down of all things bad..and good. He’ll spend the following 4 weeks recovering, rebuilding and driving toward remission. While Courtney, his children (Eli and Charlotte), the rest of our family and loved ones will be there every step of the way in spirit, Brent will be facing this battle physically alone. Due to the hospital’s COVID-19 restrictions and the required isolation during chemotherapy treatments he will not be allowed to have any visitors for the duration of his 5-week stay at Gibbs Cancer Center.

While we are blessed and trusting God for His healing hand, we know that there’s a battle ahead. My brother is a strong believer in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a loving husband and father to Courtney, Eli and Charlotte and a proud devil dog Marine. We know that he will carry his load in this fight. Courtney is also a strong woman who will lean on her faith in Jesus and carry her and Brent’s load at home. I’m calling on all of Brent’s loved ones, friends, acquaintances and anyone that’s life has been touched by my brother to join together and help carry the rest of the weight of this diagnosis. This will be a difficult battle, physically, mentally and emotionally for their family. I’m asking that you please help to remove the financial burden from their plate during this time. So let’s work like it depends on us and pray like it depends on God!

This GoFundMe fundraiser will be used to supplement medical expenses and treatments not covered by his medical insurance, as well as supplement lost income not covered by short term disability.

If you are not in a position to help financially, please consider donating blood on Brent’s behalf. He will need all of it he can get! Courtney’s sister, Ashley, has setup an account for Brent at The Blood Connection and you can donate at any location. Just make sure you give Brent’s name. Please call ahead for a time due to social distancing. Spartanburg’s hours are 8:30-5:30 Monday-Friday and 7:00-4:00 Saturday & Sunday. Platelets and plasma can be donated as often as every 14 days. Whole blood donations are every 56 days.

Whether you decide to do none or all of the above, I ask you, most importantly, to go to the throne of Jesus in prayer on my brothers behalf. In the words of Danny Garrett, Courtney’s dad..
“Gut punched, heart broken, teary eyed and overwhelmed, but anchored in the storm. (Hebrews 6:19 ) Would gladly take another’s place of suffering, but thats not mine to choose. My place is as an intercessor for Brent Glover and family.
Please join me! Mark 14:36”

GOD BLESS

Brandon
