the status right now- Brenna is still in Critical Condition. We have had a setback with a pesky collapsed lung so she currently has a chest tube in to assist her breathing. Our girl is a FIGHTER but still is not out of the woods yet!

My beautiful 7-year-old niece, Brenna, has had a severe allergic reaction to one of her medicines from a separate ongoing medical condition. She is currently at the FIFTH hospital finally being treated. The fourth hospital figured out the issue and transferred her by ambulance to Akron Children’s Pediatric Burn Institute in Ohio.

She was diagnosed with (TEN-Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis) the most severe form of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, which is a serious, rare, and potentially life-threatening skin condition causing the skin to blister and peel and can impact internal organs and eyes. It’s caused by a serious reaction to medication and will likely require weeks of hospitalization. The best treatment for this painful medical condition is specialized care in a pediatric burn unit, which is why she was transferred to a specialty hospital that can care for her needs. Unfortunately, the hospital she is receiving treatment at is 4 hours away from their home, so her parents will be unable to work during her hospitalization.

Our goal is to help her parents, Shauna and Sam, with the financial burdens they are facing, such as medical expenses, travel and lodging expenses, ongoing care needs, and loss of income from time off work so they don’t lose their home due to this emergency.
