Brenda's road to recovery
Donation protected
For those of you who know her, Brenda Flynn is certainly one of the strongest people you have ever had the pleasure of meeting. For those of you who don't, please take the time to hear her story.
My name is Kayla, Brenda's daughter. My brother, Jamie, and I are writing this on our mother’s behalf in hopes of reaching out to her family, friends, well-wishers, and anyone else who would be willing to take a moment to hear us out, and ultimately help her in any way possible. Making this was not easy for us, as we are not used to asking for help with much, but we feel as though we had nowhere else to turn in finding the means to help our mother. Any donations, kind words, and prayers that you would be willing to send her way would be greeted with the utmost gratitude and appreciation by all of Brenda's family.
My mother has been a single mom since 2004 when my father passed away, who has always worked two jobs to support her two children. Following her husband’s death, she was simultaneously diagnosed with fibromyalgia, COPD, severe cervical spinal stenosis from OPLL, all the way from disc C2 down to C6 with severe spinal cord compression. For anyone unfamiliar with fibromyalgia, it is a rare, yet extremely debilitating chronic disease that causes constant, system-wide pain and fatigue in every muscle throughout the entire body. Two years ago, our mother was struck by a drunk driver, worsening her conditon and causing her to need spinal surgery. Just a few months ago a surgeon made us aware that my mother was "lucky" she was not already completely paralyzed since the degree of her condition was so severe that the paralysis of her hands and fingers had already begun. With all of this said and through all of the unfortunate diagnoses, my mother had always maintained her work as a billing specialist at a dental office by day and a waitress by night. But on December 15th, 2016 my mother slipped on ice and broke her hip, essentially in half, causing her to need surgery involving the reconstruction of her hip. Eventually, she will undergo physical therapy to slowly learn to walk again. She will then need to rent a handicap ramp for her stairs. As if this entire situation wasn’t daunting enough, when my mother returned home from the hospital her car was then repossessed. Brenda will be recovering, out of work and without income for a year. She is going to be left with an enormous amount of debt in the form of various medical bills to be paid along with other finances. Following her recovery from her hip surgery, our mother will be scheduling her spinal fusion shortly after. My mother has never been one to complain or ask for help, so at this time we are reaching out for her to ask for help with her financial burden so that Brenda can focus on her road to recovery.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank all of you for the unsurpassed amount of love and support you continue to show our mom, and we appreciate any and all forms of help you could provide her with in this sensitive time in her life.
Sincerely,
Kayla and Jamie Flynn
