I’m reaching out today on behalf of my son, Brendan Wells—someone I love deeply, and who is in urgent need of support.

When Brendan was a young boy, his, and our world was changed forever. On Mother’s Day in May of 2001, he witnessed the tragic death of his older brother, Seth, who was run over and killed by a drunk driver. It’s the kind of trauma no child should ever have to endure, and it’s something Brendan has silently carried for most of his life.

This moment didn’t just fracture Brendan’s world—it broke something open in our entire family. My husband Mike and I lost our child in the most devastating way imaginable. Our daughter, Avery, grew up in the shadow of that grief. And Brendan, so young and deeply impacted by what he saw, has carried the emotional weight of that day every single day since.

Brendan is now 27 years old. Over time, his pain has evolved into something debilitating—affecting his ability to work, finish college, maintain healthy relationships, and to feel safe and whole in his own life. Watching him struggle has been heartbreaking as a mother. We’ve done everything we can to support him, but trauma like this can’t be carried by love alone—it needs to be healed.

The good news is: healing is possible.

Brendan has finally found a place that offers the kind of deep, focused care he needs—Sabino Recovery, a trauma-centered residential treatment center in Arizona. This isn’t surface-level therapy. Sabino provides immersive, evidence-based treatment for people facing complex grief, PTSD, and long-term emotional injury. It’s exactly the kind of care that could truly change Brendan’s life.

But healing at this level comes at a cost—$70,000 for the full program. Insurance may cover a small portion, but Brendan will be responsible for the majority of it out-of-pocket.
