Putting this together for an old friend I met in Mr Carney’s English class at Balboa, Brendan Barrett. After being diagnosed with a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) and an inner carotid artery aneurysm in 2023, he survived a crazy brain surgery followed by radiation treatments which has led to an uncertain future. Brendan has been unable to work for sometime now and state disability has ran out; while he has his medical care somewhat under control and hopes and plans for future income through his late father’s artwork, he desperately needs help to catch up on past due rent and be able to stay in his current living situation.
Staying would mean much needed stability for Brendan and his 10 year old daughter, Welles, who is going into middle school and want to stay with the friends and connections she has now. Staying would mean Brendan and Welles could keep their 2 cats, one of which formerly belonged to Brendan’s mom who passed away a few years ago. Staying would mean Brendan would have a safe place to keep his late father’s extensive art collection. Any and all funds raised will go directly to paying off overdue rent to an extremely understanding landlord.
This is a ‘hail Mary’, last ditch effort to keep Brendan from being closer than ever to homelessness. So, if you live in the 805 or ever have been or you know what it’s like to navigate life after losing both parents or if you deal with or know someone that deals with an ‘invisible illness’ or struggle with healthcare and insurance or felt uncertain about the future at times in life; help an old friend/deserving soul out cause the world seems a little less cruel when people help people. Donate, share, manifest, pray; whatever you can do to help; it will mean the world to Brendan and Welles. Thanks for reading.
