Hello, I'm Matt and I want to first thank you so much for even looking at this page. It helps considerably to know that this fundraiser is currently getting in front of as many eyes as it can. Your taking the time to even read about what's happening is already encouraging.
My mother, Brenda York, is a wonderful, selfless person who has devoted much of her life to serving veterans, people with disabilities, and, most recently, animals. She's worked tirelessly her whole life to make life better for those she hardly even knows, but whom she gets to know because of a big heart and open mind. She's kind, fierce, and strong and someone I greatly admire, which is why it's both humbling and necessary for me to create this page.
Recently, my mother suffered a staff infection that managed to get so bad it required a toe and metatarsal amputation. I'm not a doctor and can't get into the specifics, but what I can say is that it was an incredibly scary moment for her and for all of us who know her so well, and why we're so happy that the surgery was a success and she's starting to heal!
That's the good news. The bad news is that this obviously has put a strain on financials. With her out of work for so long, it's going to be nearly impossible to keep up with the mounting bills that will be coming in. Of course, we're happy to report, that Insurance is covering a bunch of it, so that's wonderful! But unfortunately that doesn't cover home-costs, and insurance won't be able to cover the at home IV pic-line we have installed. It's a necessary step to keep providing her the necessary antibiotics three times a day, every 8 hours, to help her fight off the infection, but insurance for whatever reason won't cover that, and that alone is $5,000 out of pocket.
And while insurance is covering some of the medical bills from the hospital stay, a lot is still coming out of pocket, and as the bills come in, the out of pocket cost is somewhere between another $5,000-$10,000, which is where this fundraiser comes in. I want my mom to heal, to get back onto her feet, and get back to doing what she loves to do, but healing is hard when you're stressed about funds. Already, so many people have helped and that's wonderful! But until the end of August, this will likely be the only real source of income to cover these bills.
So once again, I humbly request for your help in helping my mother as much as you can; even if you can't donate, especially during these hard times, please share so more and more people can see it, and those that are able to donate, can. Thank you so much again.
