Brenda Has a Heart of Gold - & it Costs That Much

Twenty years ago, Brenda knew there was something terribly wrong. She felt horrible and feared she was dying. She returned to the doctors time and time again and they had no answers... until months later they realized she had contracted subacute bacterial endocarditis (a bacterial infection in the heart) from wisdom tooth extraction. Since she went so long without being diagnosed, the bacteria had eaten away part of a heart valve.  She needed a replacement valve. After lots of medication and major surgery, Brenda was well again. Her transplanted valve was due to be replaced in ten years, but Brenda, a skilled homeopath, kept her valve healthy for twice that long.

Now, a single mom in a fierce custody battle for her young son, Brenda finds herself with both legal fees and medical expenses while being unable to work as she prepares for major heart surgery at UCLA medical center - the complete opposite side of the country from her home in South Carolina.
