At 3 a.m. on September 11, 2025, tragedy struck Marissa Larsen and her children, Markus and Sabrina Perrotta, in Breezy Point, NY.
A horrific fire destroyed their entire home, leaving nothing behind—not a single belonging, not a single memory. With no homeowners insurance, the family has no safety net and is being forced to start completely from zero. We cannot stress enough how devastating it is to face this kind of loss with nothing to fall back on.
Marissa, a devoted mother, provides ongoing care for her Sabrina who has special needs and cannot live independently, while raising a new college student. By nothing short of a miracle, Marissa and Sabrina escaped the fire with only the clothes on their backs, not even shoes, while Markus, thankfully, was safe at college. Now, the family has lost everything: their home, their belongings, their memories, and their sense of safety—and they urgently need to rebuild their home to have any chance of moving forward.
Many of you may recognize Sabrina from her warm hellos and presence in the community. She lives a happy life in her favorite community, which is wonderful for children with special needs—everyone here looks out for her and helps her thrive. Now, the family is relying on the strength and generosity of this beautiful community to help lift them back up during this horrific time. Every donation, will go directly to the essentials: rebuilding a safe home.
They are starting from nothing, facing one of the hardest battles of their lives, and any support can make a life-changing difference.
