On March 17, 2019 Ten-year-old Breck Anderson was in a collision with a truck while riding his bike. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet, but the impact was hard enough that it fractured his skull, left wrist, punctured his left lung, and now pneumonia is setting in. After a CT, they discovered some bleeding on his brain. His head injury is so severe that the doctors at the pediatric ICU put him on a ventilator and placed him in a medically induced coma in an attempt to bring the swelling down. They placed a subdural screw to monitor the intracranial pressure and performed an external ventricular drain of the cerebrospinal fluid. His brain is so swollen that surgery isn't an option. They've tried various medications to bring the swelling down but his pressure is still critically high. Breck is brave, resilient, and strong. When he is well enough to be released from the hospital he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He will need rehab, therapies, and tutoring as he overcomes his traumatic brain injury. All of these things are very expensive and insurance won't cover it all. Helping others is just a part of who they are. If you know Peter and Stephenie, you know that they are the kind of people who would do anything to help anyone. Multiple times I've seen them open their home and invite people to stay with them while they get back on their feet from domestic abuse, divorce, and homelessness. I've seen them give money, food, and other items to individuals and families in need. Now they need our help. Funds will be used for medical, gas, and living expenses as they take necessary time off work to travel back and forth between the hospital and home to be with Breck and also care for their other son, CJ, at home. To further complicate the situation, Pete is recovering from shoulder surgery after a skiing accident and is unable to use his arm.
