Sorry if this is a long read but I am in need of assistance and know I should be vulnerable for anyone to understand why I’m teaching out for help. So I have been living with my entertainment manager for about a year. He’s been like a father figure to me and I’ve known him for around six years. When it came to getting the apartment, I was in a financially, rough situation, and he put up the money to secure the apartment. Not long after I did end up getting a job and was paying half the bills. Recently, my manager encouraged me to step away from the job that I was working at due to racial and discriminatory issues. I was told I didn’t have to worry about any bills until I secured another job as long as I put more effort into my entertainment (my music, podcasts, etc.) fast forward to about a week ago, and my manager made some intimate advances towards me. I turned them down, and that choice was respected, but it was still strange, considering I have always seen him as a father figure. About three days ago, my manager came to me, and expressed that he believed that I disrespected him and when the lease ends in October we’ll part ways for the following reasons:
1) no smoking in the house (within the second day up until now smoking his mostly been initiated by him.)
2) no guests in the house (initially I was told that he didn’t want me bringing too many people into the house. It was never stated that I was never allowed to bring anybody up until this point. It also didn’t make much sense to me that being an adult I’m not permitted to have a guests in a place that where I pay bills as well. My name isn’t on the contract as a lease holder but I am on the contract as a roommate who is paying bills)
3) keeping the house clean (I did slack on that at one point, and I did acknowledge it on several occasions because I was going through a really bad depression in that time, and it was very obvious. I have apologized deeply)
With all this into consideration, it did not make sense to me that it wasn’t brought up or revisited until almost a year later if he felt like I was disrespecting him. Especially considering the fact that when I was at the point where I was out of work I did everything I could to make up for the bills that I couldn’t pay rather it was material things like food, supplies or anything like that or something as simple as making sure that there was a home cooked meal as often as possible. Keep in mind within the past five or so months I have been bringing up that when the lease ends I would like to keep the apartment so I am looking for a roommate. He has been aware of this as well as the side jobs that I’ve been picking up to contribute to the house and my job hunt. Fast forward to yesterday around noon. I had a friend that I trusted come over so I could talk with them to see if they would be interested in being my roommate by the time the lease ends. I did not hide the fact that I had company because I was unaware they bringing somebody to see if they would be a roommate was wrong of me. When I spoke to him about it, he got very upset and told me when they leave I have to go with them me my cats and all my things. he told me he didn’t care about how I felt when I tried to explain that I’m just trying to make sure that I have a roommate by October. I’m embarrassed to say that I did end up pretty much begging him not to put me out yesterday and to at least give me till October and I wouldn’t touch anything in the kitchen. I wouldn’t use the lights or anything of that nature until I left . His response was that I had until Friday morning and basically told me that the small things that I tried to do to make up for where I couldn’t contribute basically went unnoticed or just not acknowledged at all. In turn, he brought up all the things that he’s done for me in the past and said that I “shitted on him“ which absolutely threw me for a loop and confused me more than anything else. I know legally he can’t put me out into days however, he can change the locks in the leasing office won’t give me a key or let me in because I’m only down on the contract as a roommate not a lease holder so he would have to be the one to allow me in. He also expressed, after I pleaded with him to not put me outside in such short notice, that he wouldn’t involve law enforcement to remove me from the home. I received a call this morning stating that I can stay in the call was quickly ended. Based off of how I was treated in the conversation yesterday as well as the intimate advances I am extremely uncomfortable being here and I fear that he will change his mind just as quick as he did the first time and quickly proceeded to try to put me out again. With all of that being said, I’m looking for a cargo van. It doesn’t have to be pretty as long as it works. I have enough simple supplies that I have stocked up over this year. That will be enough to turn a cargo van into a temporary home for me and my cats until we are able to upgrade to a motorhome , I have reached a point where I’m not sure who to reach out to for help and I’m hoping I will find somebody or some people willing and able to assist me leaving this unhealthy and manipulative environment.
