The Team: (left to right - Shawn, Dre, Libby)
With a passion for both yoga and community, we decided to create a platform where those two things could be highlighted. A platform where we could practice together; as well as experience and discuss the upliftment that yoga provides, in both mind & body. It is a tool that we can use to create lasting changes within ourselves, and our world. Breathing in Solidarity.
Andre : Local New Orleans Yoga Instructor, Will be guiding the yoga practice beginning, to middle. Yoga assisted in creating a sense of community for him when he was new to the city. The practice eventually lead him to teaching, as sharing that community with others.
Libby: A visitor from the Atlanta, Ga area. Will be guiding the cool down & meditation portion of the practice. She was attracted to yoga initially because of the calm it help to create in her life. Loving it so much that she decided become a teacher, and can now share that with all that step onto the mat.
Shawn: A New Orleans Native, and the connection between the three of us and the community, will join in hosting and engagement. Yoga was introduced to her through a friend; and she shortly noticed how it contributed to her ability to focus and gain mental clarity. As a black woman, currently working in business operations, it was great to find such a useful tool to balance the demands of life and career.

The Beneficiary: Black Man Rising
We wanted to not only bring awareness of yoga, but also make sure that our community could directly benefit through this cause. We decided that would we would pick a local non-profit organization that supported the uplifting and building of young black men and donate 100% of the proceeds to. We came across the name of “Black Man Rising” founder, A.P. Travis in a newspaper article and decided to look into the organization.
Black Man Rising’s mission statement reads “Black Man Rising movement is a national campaign to encourage all people of color to define, reach, and excel beyond their own vision of success to become stakeholders to their community by providing outreach, mentorship, and resources.” Their goal right now is to expand their resources and fund what they call “DaVillage”. In Da Village they deliver mentorship in a unique way as a group in a healing circle. They speak on past traumas and breaking generational curses. They are the start we need.
Together we can all help in building a solid foundation that will contribute to the future of these young men.
