Breathe for Vanessa

When COVID started my family and I immediately worried for my sister who was immune compromised due to a kidney transplant. We all stayed in and were as careful as we could be. When the vaccines came we breathed a sigh of relief hoping we could get back to life while keeping her safe. My sister was vaccinated as quickly as she could but 3 days after her second dose she fell ill. Somewhere between the 2 doses my sister contracted COVID and for the next 3 months she fought for her life. Everyday the amazing nurses set up video chats and we watched as she struggled on a vent and then was placed on ecmo with a less then 10% chance to live. We cried and prayed every day. Everyday her kids asked for her and we felt helpless as the fight was hers and her alone. The nurses told us some days when she was not doing well they would remind her that her kids were home waiting for her and she would wake up, even for a second, So we cried and prayed some more until one day she pulled through. Now she is home and we are so grateful but unfortunately her lungs were severely damaged. My sister is only 39 years old and needs oxygen to do simple things like take a walk around our street or play with her young children in the park. Her kids are what helped her pull through and not being able to keep up with them was very hard for her so my sister did what she always does for her kids and made a sacrifice to buy portable oxygen that WAS NOT covered by ins. The cost was 3300 dollars. She financed the machine because she couldn't bear to sit out of her kids lives. After all she has been through I'd like to lift the burden of paying for the oxygen machine. I am hoping others will want to help and donate whatever they can to help pay it off and help her with other expenses she incurred while sick. I have never known anyone as strong or resilient as my sister. I am so proud of her and everything she has fought to be a mom for her kids and if I can do this one thing for her I know she would be so grateful. Thank you.
